Dana 60 Kingpins

What a nastylookin kingpin.

These kingpins may look like just a screw in piece, but they are a little more than that. like 600 ft. lbs. of torque with a 7/8 allen wrench. The wrench is special order from seattle, because i couldn't find anything in town. It is bigger than a hammer.

The first kingpin (passenger side) came off relatively easy. I put a socket on the allan, so i wouldn't screw it up with a hammer, and then beat it with a giant steel hammer until it popped loose. The drivers side (shown) wasn't as easy. Ryan attacked this one. A few smacks and it cracked at two of the points of the hex. Ryan gave it one last giant swing, and now he has the imprint of an allan wrench in his knee. We then moved on to a giant piece of 2", 1/4" wall tubing. I smached my chest after splitting the rest of the points of the hex.
Next was welding all of the pieces back together, since we were pretty much screwed.
After welding all the seams back together, the prying finally broke loose the rusted in place kingpin.
What a job that turned out to be.
Next come the new parts for the rebuild.

Ryan's BTF Battery Box

$40 BTF battery box
The back of the box was modified with a steel plate and angle, to accomodate for the factory mounting holes.

This fender brace rod was then taken from a parts truck and welded on to add another tie into a factory inner fender bolt hole.

Dana 60 Broken stud

The Chevy Dana 60 had a broken stud in the housing. Not very fun!
After breaking the first easy-out off in the hole, about 30 drill bits were harmed in the making of this story. Once the hole was finally bored out again, another easy out got the job done!

It came clean, with no damage to the housing.

Summer Bash 3 -Sand Lake-

Sandlake May 19-20 « Thread Started on Feb 4, 2007, 7:49am »

Our annual Sandlake run will be May 19-20. Known as Summer Bash 3 although a lil early for summer. This is a "non-organized" event. The reason it is non organized is there seams to be a fuzzy gray area with the parks and rec people on what an organized event is. This is a national forest and it requires permits to hold events and to make money on state land. So since we don't charge anyone to attend and we mainly just gather together and have fun it isn't technically an event. Our only area of concern is our raffle. I will get all the info I need on that before our run so we can have another. This year it looks like we will be spread through out the camp ground and in the sand. Lets plan for the group photo at the 1st bowl at 12noon on Saturday, we had too many people last year to try it at the beach again. 15 rigs to a row so everyone gets in the photo. We will have the raffle at 2pm on saturday.
